Please give us a short summary of your website?
Baby Eco Trends is a site featuring green living products, with an emphasis on organic, sustainable and fair trade items. We offer organic cloth diapers, organic baby skin care, bisphenol-a free feeding sets, safe baby toys, organic baby clothing, children's supplements and formaldehyde free children's furniture.
For grown ups and the rest of the household, we offer green cleaning products, biodegradable laundry supplies, organic body care products, organic soaps, feminine hygiene products and organic teas.
We encourage our customers to visit often because the site continues to grow and the list of offerings keeps increasing.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Our site was launched out of a need for green living items. We are consumers of eco friendly products and wanted to provide a place for people like us to shop, knowing that items have been pre-screened by other eco conscious people.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is the first site we have launched, but it has been so much fun, we keep dreaming up ideas for new websites.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Baby Eco Trends best captures up what we want to bring to mind; except that it isn't just limited to babies, of course!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Our website is different in that we don't list items that aren't "green", we sell what we use ourselves. There are items we could sell that are more profitable, but don't meet our "green" values. So we pass on them and stick to what we believe in.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
The long-term plan is to keep it and continue to grow it. It's actually a lot of fun!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It evens out for the most part. Sometimes, it seems like a lot of work for a little return. But if success can be measured in terms of job satisfaction, it is definitely a 'fair trade'.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
The site wouldn't change much, but we would hire more employees.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
This is a problem we keep dreaming about and would love to experience. In that event, we would enlist the help of friends & family until we could get new employees up to speed.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We did a great deal of homework before launching this site and therefore, did not run into any unexpected costs and headaches. What has been a great surprise is just how much fun it is and how much one can learn in a short period of time.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been affordable internet marketing.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth has been a very successful way of promoting our website.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Running our website has been a lot more enjoyable than we had expected, I am happy to report.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We have been running the site since 2008 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Would you recommend running an online business to anyone else?
We would definitely recommend this to others. Ours is an e-commerce, but any website is a great opportunity to learn and experience new things.
